Heaven or Las Vegas is a song by the Cocteau Twins
and it came to mind today with the sadness and sorrow that took place in Las Vegas. The song itself is really more about a gamble in love than a tragedy, but got me thinking about the horrors we see all too often on TV and now more so on social media and how we are affected by the imagery. All within minutes on Twitter, we became voyeurs of raw and close to live footage from the scene. It was sad and awful to see and I can't imagine being there. Those poor people were like fish in a barrel for a very sick man and there was really nothing they could do but hope and pray they were not struck.
Today and everyday is yet another reminder to me about living your life to the fullest, enjoying each others company, getting outside and seeing the beauty that is everywhere even if something as horrible as last night's events could happen. Life is too short to be scared and afraid of what might happen instead of reaching out for what might be and taking that risk.
Rest in peace to those lost in Las Vegas and Godspeed to those injured and all of the families and friends affected.
